MLS Students' Observational Visit to Hiwa Hospital

On 14th August 2018, under the supervision of Dr Dashty Amin; Clinical Haematology lab. arranged an observational visit for Medical Laboratory Science students to Hiwa Hospital laboratories.
The students had an induction to all hospital lab departments and observed available machines used in clinical diagnosis and assessment of different diseases.

University Day!

MLS Department participated in the University day. As usual MLS section hosted the maximum number of guests how were enthusiastically willing to see MLS students’ projects in the healthcare-related fields of Chemistry, Biology, Medicine, Alternative Medicine and Ecology. And they also had a chance to be served in the labs to check for their blood parameters for different Chemical, Hematological and Serological examinations along with some attractive treatments of Ancient Traditional (Chinese) and Alternative Medicine.

MLS students were able to show their high professional confidence and ethical attitude with the esteemed visitors.

Medical Laboratory Science Department looks forward to seeing and serving our community more frequently.

MLS Students are Graduating!

MLS department is celebrating the very first graduating group of students.

This group of students consists of students who are high school finishers and the other group is those who have already finished the Clinical Pathology Institute and were determinate to obtain Bachelor of Science in their field of knowledge.

Here they are enjoying this success at KUST/MLS. We, as MLS/KUST department, wishing them all the best of success in their future career and academic lives. We do trust their capacities of ethical knowledge and skills; this fact was clearly reflective during the Rotation Program in numerous regional hosting hospitals.

Departmental Meeting with Students

On Thursday November 16th 2017;Medical Laboratory Science held a meeting with current students. The aim of the meeting was to update MLS students with modifications in KUST that will ease the progress of students. In this meeting students view and requests were discussed and recorded. The meeting were in two sessions to keep ongoing classes, laboratory session, [RP] rotation program uninterrupted, and hear as much suggestions as possible from students.
Regular meetings of this type were encouraged, as it serves students, MLS Department and KUST to spot any issue or keep working on successful actions taken by MLS Department at KUST.

On Thursday, September 14, 2017, Komar University for Science and Technology organized a workshop with KSCIEN Organization about “How to Publish a Paper in an International Journal“. Dr. Heshu from MLS department delivered her presentation titled "Drafting a Manuscript".

Participation in International Conference on Health and Medical Sciences

Dr. Heshu Sulaiman; MLS Dep./KUST chairperson; has participated as a speaker in International Conference on Health and Medical Sciences which held at Faruq Medical City on 8 August 2017. Her research entitled Zerumbone Suppresses Angiogenesis in HepG2 Cells via Inhibition of MMPVEGF and VEGFR Expressions. She focused on using natural plant products to reduce the incidence of cancer affection.

Attending and Participating in Workshop

A team of 3 members including Dr. Heshu Sulaiman-MLS Chair, Dr. Shwan Rachid-Part time Faculty, and Mr. Woshyar Rashid-Senior student has been invited by the Biomurex Company at Erbil for 2 days [1-2 August 2017] workshop on Medical Devices for the purpose of training on the Medical devices (VITEK 2 and Film Array).
They were successfully attended and participated in the workshop for 2 consecutive days and appreciated the company for their fruitful and informative knowledge.

Participation in International Conference

Dr. Heshu Sulaiman Rahman has participated as an oral presenter at an International Conference of Natural Science (ICNS-2017) at Charmo University-Chamchamal on 5-6 July 2017.
Her presentation was entitled: The effectiveness of superovulation and multiple pregnancies in Sprague Dawley rat using Morus alba Linn. fruit.

In her study, she showed that M. alba fruit extract can potentially be used to stimulate ovulation that will facilitate multiple pregnancies while contributing to the maintenance of embryo health. Additionally, M. alba fruit extract may be used to increase sex hormone production in females, improve ovulation that could lead to superovulation and multiple pregnancies. The extract has potential to be developed as a safe alternative source in the treatment of infertility in females.

Summer Training Course

Health awareness program is an important task in life world wide because it allows people with certain health conditions, along with their family members, advocacy organizations, and support groups, to rally around a common cause of health disturbances, choice of investigations, conducting first aid and treating abnormal conditions successfully.

Therefore, Department of Medical Laboratory Sciences, College of Health Science held 5 days Summer Training Course for its students under the supervision of Dr. Soran Mohammed Gharib on 16/7 to 20/7 (Sunday to Thursday) from 11:00 am to 13:00 pm each day.
